Established in 2000, Hi-Veld Fruit Packers is a fruit packaging and marketing facility comprising 15 apple growers in the Ermelo area.

In 2002, nine of its producers created a packaging company, with the aid of financing from the Mpumalanga Economic Empowerment Corporation and commercial banks. Since then, the company has marketed its apples to major national supermarket chains as well as to the UK, Europe, the Far East and the Middle East.

In 2006,  MEGA was approached by Hi-Veld Fruit Packers to purchase 26% of its shareholding. Hi-Veld needed a reputable BEE partner with further capital, in order to expand its production, and MEGA was eager to implement the restructuring plan and investment required to realise the organisation’s full value.
